MEMBERS of the Girlguiding association’s senior branch have visited a horse-riding school which gives lessons to the disabled to see how money they raised is being spent.

The Pembrokeshire County Trefoil Guild decided to donate money to a local charity instead of sending Christmas cards to one another.

The group settled on helping out Bowlings Riding School, near Rudbaxton, which provides lessons for children living with disabilities in the county.

The lessons help children gain confidence with horses, and with other people, as well as exercising.

The Trefoil guild members visited the riding school on Wednesday, June 20, and presented rosettes to the three children taking part in a gymkana ride, paid for from the £40 raised by their Christmas card donation.

Judith Thomas of the guild said: “It has been education for us to see what they do and to hear the improvement of the children as they ride.”

Trefoil Guild members also praised the volunteers who work at the riding school.

The Trefoil Guild is for Girlguiding members aged 18 and over, its members agree to support the guiding ethos - including the pledge to help other people.

Many members pass on their skills and knowledge to local guiding units, from helping Brownies work towards a badge to preparing older girls for a camping adventure.

Many members are unit leaders or helpers in Girlguiding units.
