A CHARITY event started by two women who were successfully treated for breast cancer will be officially opened by Welsh actress Eve Myles on Sunday.

The Keeping Faith star will join 200 women at the glamorous fundraising event ‘Ladies Day does Cannes Film Festival’ at Llety Cynin, St Clears for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This is the ninth year of the Ladies Day fundraising event organised by local women - Anna Tee, Rebecca Burton, Gwawr Davies, Elizabeth Davies and Pam Windsor.

Said Anna, who is also a partnership manager for Macmillan in Wales: “I am so excited that Eve Myles is going to open the day and I’m really looking forward to meeting her.

“When I think back to my breast cancer diagnosis in 2009, it all felt so bleak, but, you know, something really positive came from that time and that was Ladies Day.

“I feel very passionate about this event - for me it is a little window of fun, time out and joy in all of our busy and hectic lives.

“Some precious time to meet up with friends and relax whilst at the same time, raising lots of money for local cancer charities.

“It is also a time to remember some beautiful friends who we have sadly lost.

“For me this is about valuing what we have and enjoying life.

“Of course we couldn’t do any of this without the support of local businesses who every year sponsor the event, which means 100 per cent of ticket sales and money raised on the day will be donated to Macmillan and Ty Hafan.”

Since 2009, the fundraisers have donated over £50,000 to charities that help people with cancer in Carmarthenshire, and they are hoping to smash their 2017 total of £10,000 this year.
