ITALIAN fast food lovers in the south of Pembrokeshire are sure to be delighted when pizza giant Domino’s opens a new store on South Parade, Tenby, on Monday, July 30.

In addition to delivering the tasty treats, Domino’s will be serving up 30 local positions, including pizza makers, customer service colleagues and delivery drivers, for those wanting to earn a little dough.

Western Telegraph:

The national company's controversial proposal to open a 64-seat restaurant and takeaway just yards from the resort's war memorial and the historic town walls was allowed on appeal after being turned down by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park planners.

Tenby Town Council and Tenby Civic Society were amongst the objectors to the Domino's UK application for a change of use from retail to hot food takeaway at newly-built units along South Parade.

The council described the proposals as "disrespectful", with one member even threatening to resign if the plans were passed.

It was turned down by the Park 's development management committee in August 2017.

The company then appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, and an informal hearing and site visit was held in December.

Planning inspector Nicola Gulley, in allowing the appeal earlier this year, rejected concerns over traffic congestion which had been raised by local councillors, Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism and Park members.

They felt that there was the potential for traffic congestion from Domino's delivery vehicles because of the business's location on the one-way South Parade, with double yellow lines on both sides of the street and a bus stop and the fire station close by.

However, delivery drivers are to be requested to park in the nearby multi-storey car park with a season ticket while collecting orders.

Western Telegraph:

Speaking about the Monday opening, Lewis, store manager at Tenby Domino’s said the store would have a special offer for anyone wanting a slice of la dolce vita.

“We’re thrilled to be opening our doors to the people of Tenby, and we’re celebrating the opening by offering Any Size Pizza £11.99 when you come and collect.

“There’s also plenty of employment opportunity for people living in Tenby, so we look forward to welcoming local pizza superstars to join our growing team. In particular we’re searching for delivery drivers, who can provide exceptional customer service, and demonstrate integrity, honesty and reliability, as well as being pepperoni passionate for freshly made pizza.”
