AN article detailing a local MP's severance pay after resigning from the Cabinet raised eyebrows this week after it resurfaced and spread across social media.

An article by Politics Home detailing Stephen Crabb's almost £17,000 severance pay resurfaced earlier this week after it was shared on the Facebook pages Political Penfro and Stop the War Pembrokeshire.

Mr Crabb, MP for Preseli-Pembrokeshire, stood down from his role as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in 2016, after becoming involved in a sexting scandal.

Mr Crabb, who is a devout Christian, was later referred for investigation - and subsequently cleared - by the conservative party late last year after further allegations that he had sent inappropriate texts to a 19-year-old woman who he had interviewed for a job.

The Department of Work and Pensions annual accounts from last year showed that Mr Crabb was given £16,877 when he quit.

In a statement to the Western Telegraph, Stephen Crabb said: "I stood down from Government 2 years ago after serving as a minister for 6 years alongside my duties as Member of Parliament.

"The scheme for severance payments for ministers leaving their jobs is fully in the public domain."
