RAIN could not dampen the spirits of Haverfordwest, as the town celebrated the return of the summer carnival this afternoon.

Crowds of people lines the streets of the town centre to watch the carnival parade from County Hall, up through High Street, and back down Barn Street before making its way to the Bridge Meadow.

This year’s carnival revived the use of floats, which have not been seen in Haverfordwest for some time, though a walking carnival took place up until a few years ago.

A year of the sea theme was given to participants to follow, to match with Visit Wales’ current tourism campaign.

Haverfordwest’s fire crew’s engine paved the way for the carnival’s floats, which were led by a sled carrying the carnival queens and princess.

The sled was decorated with knitted flowers courtesy of the town’s secretive yarn bombers.

Other floats joining the parade included the Ladies Circle, supporting Belle’s Story, an organisation raising awareness for Belle Curran, who lives with a life-altering lung condition.

The Belle’s Story float had incorporated litter and flotsam found on Pembrokeshire’s coastline when its members took part in a beach clean.

There was also a float from Haverfordwest Services Club, and two floats from Prendergast, one of which carried a crew of grizzled pirates, and the other carrying the local children dressed as tropical sea life.

Pure West Radio’s float followed at the rear, alongside walking entries from Haverfordwest Skate Park and FF Dancers.

The carnival finished at Bridge Meadow, where there was fun and games for the families taking part to enjoy.
