Mr B H Skyrme

Freshwater East

BRIAN Howard Skyrme died suddenly at his home in Freshwater East on July 1.

Born in Front Street, Pembroke Dock, he was the third of five children for Reginald and Mildred Skyrme, and he spent his life in the town of his birth.

After completing his mechanics apprenticeship from age 16, Brian worked in a number of local garages before joining the newly opened Texaco Refinery in 1964, retiring in 1992 as Head Operator.

A highly skilled car mechanic, he continued to repair cars for family and friends long after his retirement.

A dedicated family man, Brian married Phyllis John in 1953.

As newlyweds, the couple lived in The Green, Pembroke before moving to Thomas Street, Orange Gardens with their two sons. Their daughter was born there six years later with Brian taking on the midwifery duty.

The family moved to Freshwater East in 1981 where Brian enjoyed daily walks along the coast path with his dogs. His other great passion was Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club whom he had supported since childhood, a passion that was soon shared by Phyllis. The numerous trips to Molineux to watch the team play are fond memories for many members of the family.

Brian also had a great love of animals and was never without a dog or two for company - donations in his memory will be given to Greenacre Animal Rescue.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Phyllis Skyrme (wife); Michael and Tony Skyrme (sons); and Sandra Rees-Pedlar (daughter).

The service was held on July 17 at Monkton Priory Church followed by interment at Monkton Cemetery, Monkton.

The service was officiated by Rev Peter Jones.

The pall bearers were sons Michael and Tony Skyrme, grandsons Gordon and Jason Skyrme, nephew Nicky Evans, and family friend (Rhys Hague).

Tributes were read by his daughter (Sandra Rees-Pedlar) and granddaughters Kelly Skyrme and Tiffany Polino.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Sons of Pembroke Dock.
