Mr R M Bastin

Pembroke

MR Robert Malcolm Bastin (known as Malcolm) of Whitehall Drive, Pembroke passed away at his home on July 26.

He was 64.

Originally from Pembroke and Pembroke Dock he left school and briefly worked as a machine operator at Pembroke Woollen Company before moving to Hancock’s Shipbuilding Company as a workshop machine operator/stores assistant.

In January 1974 he became a storekeeper at Pembroke Power Station, where he worked for the following 23 years until it closed. After a few short posts he began work at the new Tesco Store in Pembroke Dock in 1999, where he remained until his passing.

Malcolm enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed reading, walking, travelling, the British Film Industry, and was an avid collector of stamps, coins and anything to do with the railways.

He was knowledgeable on a variety of topics from politics to sport. With all the interests Malcolm had, the main one was always the railways. He had travelled on most of the rail networks in Britain and knew the branch lines as well as he knew the main lines and liked nothing better than to visit York and the Railway Museum there.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Rose Bastin (mother); Janice and Stewart Longhurst (sister and brother-in-law); Claire and Leighton Byrne (niece and husband); Dylan Byrne (grand-nephew), plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by Ray Bastin (father) and Marie Longhurst (niece).

The funeral was held at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock on August 7 followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

It was officiated by Revd Marina Evans and the bearers were Stewart Longhurst (brother-in-law); Leighton Byrne (niece’s husband); David Leigh (cousin); Matthew Bradshaw (cousin).

Mrs J Husband

Keyston

MRS Joan Husband passed away peacefully on July 19.

Joan was born in Swansea in 1928, her parents were Walter and Edith Croucher and she had two brothers, Edward (deceased) and David Croucher.

Joan relocated to Pembrokeshire as part of the Land Army and while at Cuffern Farm she met Talfryn Husband and they married in 1946. They lived firstly at Naples, then at Cramba Hall at Keyston Turn where their children Sylvia and Phillip were born, before moving to Pelcomb Villas, where their family grew and Marina, Charles, James, Michael and Avril were born.

The family then moved to Honeyhook Farm, Lambston, while the family home was being built at Keyston. Joan was always hard working even though she had a large family to support and worked the land, did various cleaning and waitressing jobs before becoming an auxiliary nurse in 1971 at St Thomas and The County Hospital before moving to work at the newly opened Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, where she worked until she retired in 1988.

Joan’s husband Talfryn sadly passed away in 1974 and Joan continued to support her family and live independently until she retired and moved into the bungalow ‘Talsfield’ built by her son Phillip on the family land.

Joan sadly also suffered the loss of her two son’s James Husband in November 2003 and Phillip Husband in December 2003.

Joan always had a great love of music and enjoyed singing and listening to music whenever she had the opportunity, she was also part of the Haverfordwest Amateur Dramatics Society and took part in their productions.

Joan spent time at Rickeston Mill Nursing Home where she continued to enjoy music, often enjoying singing with the staff and participating in their musical events.

The funeral service was held at Keyston United Reformed Church, where a large gathering of family, friends and neighbours attended, which reflected the love and regard in which Joan was held, this was also reflexed in the cards, flowers and the many sincere messages of condolence’s received by the family.

A lovely service was officiated by Reverend Martin Spain and the organist was Denzil Jeremy, with an emotional solo performance of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ sung by Robynne Williams (great granddaughter) while she played the guitar, followed by interment at Keyston Cemetery.

The principal mourners are Sylvia Bradley, Marina and Gerald Williams, Charles Husband, Michael Husband and Chris Morgan, Avril and Sam Busby and too numerous to mention, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who all knew Joan as ‘Nanny Keyston’.

The bearers were some of her grandsons, Paul Husband, Steven Husband, John Husband, Luke Gregory, Sam Gregory and Martin Williams.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Robin and his team from Roy Folland and Son of Haverfordwest.

Mr J L Ebsworth

Spain

Formerly of Pembroke Dock

MR John Llewellyn Ebsworth passed away peacefully at his home in Spain on August 7.

John was born in Saundersfoot and his parents ran the Alexandra Hotel in Pembroke Dock.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Joan (nee Carr), his sons Matthew, Jonathan and Neil; his daughters-in-law; nine grandchildren, sister-in-law and his sister.

The funeral took place in Spain on August 9.

Mrs G M Richards

Llangwm

FRIENDS and neighbours of the village of Llangwm were shocked and saddened by the passing of Gillian Mary Richards after a short illness at the age of 79.

On Monday August 6 family and friends attended the funeral of Gillian at St Jerome’s Church, Llangwm.

Gillian (nee Davies) known as Gill was born in Llangwm Ferry, daughter of William and Elizabeth and grew up in the village along with her brothers and sisters.

She married Bob Richards in 1960 and together they had four children Andrew, Mark, Simon and Lisa.

Very sadly Andrea predeceased Gill.

Gill was a loving and devoted wife, mother and nanny and always put her family before anything else in her life.

She enjoyed reading, going on day trips, spending time with the family, ensuring everyone was well fed, numerous holidays in Yeovil, and walking her dogs, Carrie and Pebbles.

Gill was a very popular lady who had time for everyone, a truly lovely lady.

After spending a short time in Withybush Hospital, it was Gill’s wish to come home to spend her remaining days there. She passed away peacefully at home with her family on Monday July 30.

She leaves to mourn her husband Bob Richards, Mark and Fiona Richards (son and daughter-in-law); Simon and Emilie Richards (son and daughter-in-law); Lisa and Ray Gunner (daughter and son-in-law); Jamie and Sophie Absalom, Megan Richards and Joseph Gunner her brother’s, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces and many friends.

The funeral was officiated by Rev Marcus Zipperlen.

The bearers were Mark Richards (son); Ray Gunner (son-in-law); Tony Adams and David Golding (family friends).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by David Davies of Llangwm.

Mrs J Ford

Castle Martin

MRS Joyce Ford of Warren, Castle Martin passed away on July 31 at her home.

She was 84.

Born in Cardiff in 1933, Joyce moved to Pembroke in 1966 and lived in Monkton and later Lamphey before opening the Middlegate Restaurant in Pembroke with her husband Derek in 1972.

She went on to open other restaurants in Llandewi Velfrey and Whitemill in Carmarthen.

Her main interests were her family but she enjoyed painting, pottery, flower arranging, reading and sewing.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners Derek Ford (husband); Professor Beverley Stephens and Alan Stephens (daughter and son-in-law); Wayne and Hazel Ford (son and daughter-in-law); Ashley and Trevor Holloway (daughter and son-in-law); Joanna, Kate, Ceri, Danielle, Sam, Paige and Josh (grandchildren); Ted, Jay, Menna, Ruby, Edi, Elis and Delilah (great grandchildren); Henry (great, great grandson).

The service took place on August 14 and was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Rev Josh Maynard.

The bearers were Ceri Stephens, Sam Holloway, Josh Holloway (grandsons); Robert Dyde, Bradley Challinor (granddaughter’s husbands and Ten Mckenny (great grandson).
