TWO local ladies are abseiling down the Pembroke Great Keep on Sunday, September 23 to raise funds to fix Stackpole Church's leaking roof.

The church is listed as Grade 1 and dates back to the 12th Century.

A spokesman said: "While we would have liked to have abseiled down the church tower, Julie said she would not want to potentially make a larger hole in the roof if she missed timed her descent."

While the church is foremost a place of worship, it also serves as a link to the community and the building is also home to rare species of bats.

Julie and Tracy are raising funds to match the already generous donations and grants from the Heritage Lottery and Churches Trust to make sure that the Church can continue to support and nurture the Christian community within the surrounding villages and beyond.
