A SUSPECTED fire, which saw a train delayed by two hours this morning, was a false alarm.

Firefighters from Haverfordwest, Narberth, Milford Haven and Fishguard attended a fire on a train near Clarbeston Road at 7.56am this morning.

Staff were evacuated, and fire crews carried out an inspection of the train using a thermal imaging camera.

It was established the fire was a false alarm, and firefighters left the scene at 9.26am.

An Arriva Trains Wales spokesman said: "As the train pulled out of the station there was some smoke coming from the engine underneath.

"The driver stopped the train and the fire service were called as a precaution however no evidence of a fire was found.

"Because of where the train was, the lines from Whitland to Fishguard Harbour and from Whitland to Milford Haven were blocked.

"Road transport was arranged and the train is back on the move again now and being taken to our depot in Cardiff for investigation and any repairs so the lines are now open.

"We’d like to apologise to all affected customers and to thank them for their patience."

They added there were no passengers on board at the time.
