WILL AND Tina Evans of Gwaun Valley Meats, Letterston have put their 5p carrier bag charge to good use; donating £100 to both Paul Sartori and the Catrin Vaughan Foundation.

The couple set up a fundraising account back in 2011 when their son, Trystan, then eight, became ill.

“He was treated in Withybush, Cardiff and Bristol,” explained Tina. “The year after he came out of hospital we held a fundraising event to give back to the places that had helped us when he was poorly.”

Trystan is now a healthy teenager and a pupil at Ysgol Bro Gwaun. Will and Tina decided to keep the fundraising account in his name open and use it to donate the money taken from the 5p plastic bag charge to local charities.

They have previously donated to Crossroads, Cardiff and Bristol Children’s Hospitals, The Ronald McDonald House as well as donating books to Withybush Hospital.

“The money raised within Gwaun Valley Meats has mainly come from the five pence carrier bag charge and a small fee for customers purchasing bones for their dogs” said Tina.

Lisa Wells the income generation team administrator for Paul Sartori said:

“We are extremely grateful to receive this donation from Gwaun Valley Meats. It is through the generosity of people like Will and Tina Evans that we can continue to provide this much needed service, which is available free of charge 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
