PUPILS from St Aidan’s Church in Wales School, Wiston recently spent the day in St David’s Cathedral for the International Day of Peace.
The youngsters undertook a variety of activities prepared by the Education Officer Janet Ingram.
The day began with a discussion about the day and how it was being celebrated across the world. The pupils thought about how disputes can be upsetting and how wars can affect countries. Throughout the morning the pupils went into small groups and competed many activities to make them think about peace in their lives and around the world.
Canon Leigh Richardson spoke to the pupils about World War I and the art installation around the Cathedral. Many pupils had opportunities to decorate peace doves and some wrote prayers for the final service. They also had opportunities to search the cathedral for different birds, identifying the doves, and also walking a labyrinth.
The day ended with all pupils singing ‘Together as One’, the One Day One Choir song, being sung by pupils all around the world.
