BUDDING broadcasters got a chance to rule the airwaves at Ysgol Bro Gwaun last month when BBC radio presenter, Marc Griffiths, ran a radio workshop with year 8.

Marc was responsible for establishing Cymru.FM, a radio channel that runs online with programs broadcast globally. He also has his own radio programme on Radio Cymru every Saturday evening.

During the day, pupils had the opportunity to script, record and produce their first programme on the theme of famous Welsh people. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn how to plan and run their own radio station.

The workshop marked the launch of Radio Bwrlwm Bro Gwaun. The first programme was broadcast live on Wednesday, September 26. You can hear the program again on Cymru.FM and on the Canolfan Iaith Bro Gwaun website https://www.canolfaniaithbrogwaun.com/radio-bwrlwm-bro-gwaun.html.

"Ysgol Bro Gwaun has a new building set for the Twenty First Century and the children's long-term vision is to stimulate and promote Welsh and Welshness," said a school spokesman.

"Through creating and establishing a radio station, which will be broadcast in the new building, the community and heard on a world-wide platform, the year 8 pupils' vision is set in stone and they are now ready to embark on an exciting adventure."
