MORE than 200 people attended a family fun session, run by a project that is enhancing local lives.

The Friends of Springboard's school fair on September 26 saw visitors take part in a range of free activities, from pottery and crafts to jewellery making, facepainting and stop-motion animation.

The event, held at Gelliswick VC School, also raised more than £240 towards a new camera for the project's photography classes through the sale of raffle tickets, refreshments, and handmade crafts.

The event was organised to promote the partnership between the school and the Springboard project, which is supported by the Hakin and Hubberston Invest Local fund.

Thanks to Gelliswick school, free Springboard activities for both adults and children at the school continue to be funded three days a week throughout the academic year

These activities and courses help develop confidence and skills in adults and children alike, across a wide range of subjects.

The Friends was set up by parents who have benefitted from the scheme and are committed to securing its future.

In the last year the Friends have secured more than £16,000 to support its activities across Pembrokeshire.

Thanks went to the school for its continued support, and Phoenix Bowl, Torch Theatre and Test for their generous raffle donations.

Mayor of Milford Haven Cllr Rose Gray said: "Having attended Springboard classes myself over the past few years I understand how important the project is to the people who attend and their families, to the school and to the wider community.

"I was delighted to have been asked to come to the event and so were my children.

"They got to have a go at some animation using an iPad, made some people from wooden spoons and enjoyed some delicious popcorn fresh from the machine.

"There was a wonderful atmosphere and the hall was filled with lots of happy faces."
