A Wiston pensioner kicked and spat at police officers after accusing his neighbour of poisoning his dog.

William Bowen, of Longlands Lane, previously entered not guilty pleas to two charges of assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty and breaching a criminal behaviour order.

Bowen, 74, changed his pleas to guilty when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates via video link from Swansea prison on Monday, October 15.

Sian Vaughan, prosecuting, told the court that Bowen had breached a court order, made on August 2, by approaching his neighbour and acting in an anti-social manner.

Bowen swore at his neighbour and said he had poisoned his dog when he saw him in the properties’ court yard on September 9.

Miss Vaughan said: “He continued to use foul language and the police were called. Mr Bowen was particularly unpleasant when the police officers came.”

The bench heard that Bowen rejected the opportunity to go quietly with the police and aimed a kick at the first officer’s genital area before spitting at the second as they took hold of him.

Megan Williams, defending, said Bowen had physical and mental health issues, and suffered PTSD after serving in the army.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing for two weeks for a probation report to be completed and Bowen was remanded in custody until his next appearance on October 29.
