ALL the fun of the fair can be found in Tenby this weekend, following the discovery of a 17th century town charter.

The ancient document - the Charter of 1631, awarded by Charles I - allows Tenby to have a three-day autumn fair to celebrate the Feast of St Matthew.

The Showmen's Guild had been hoping for years for a summer revival of Tenby's fondly-remembered St Margaret's Fair, but Pembrokeshire County Council would not allow Tenby's car parks to be used for a fair during the height of the season.

The inaugural St Matthew's Fair in the Five Arches car park was opened at lunchtime yesterday (Friday), following a civic parade - led by a piper - through the town.
