A Narberth man saw red as he assaulted a man he had ‘beef’ with in a pub.

Angelo Edwards, of Garfield Gardens, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and damaging property when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, October 16.

Abul Hussain, prosecuting, said Nicholas Prevett saw Edwards, 33, while in a Narberth pub of September 23.

“He says the defendant came at him aggressively and said ‘let’s go’.”

Mr Prevett was punched in the jaw and taken to the floor before managing to get away. He ran out of the pub and went to home.

Edwards then went to the victim’s property and smashed two of his windows by throwing unknown items at them.

The court heard that Mr Prevett did not suffer any visible injuries during the assault, but had soreness and discomfort to his jaw.

Jonathan Webb, defending, said: “It was an unprovoked one-punch assault in a public house.”

He added that Edwards stated he had ‘beef’ with Mr Prevett before, and accepted he was very drunk on the day in question.

Mr Webb said: “It’s one punch, they both go to the floor and are separated by others.

“Mr Edwards saw red and lashed out.”

The court heard that Edwards had been ‘battling with alcoholism’, but was ‘doing his best to achieve sobriety’.

Mr Webb said: “He is now six days into his very long road to sobriety. Every journey starts with a first step.”

The bench heard that Edwards, who had similar previous convictions, was subject to post sentence supervision at the time of the offence.

Magistrates sentenced Edwards to a 12-month probation order with a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirement and 80 days of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £100 compensation for the windows, and £170 in costs and a surcharge.
