A LOCAL dog handler and his pooches will appear on new TV series Dog Detectives tonight (Monday).

Stuart Phillips is a former MOD dog handler from Llandissilio who set up his firm BWY Canine in 2009.

He works with detection dogs, some of which are from rescue centres, training them to find items such as drugs, guns, explosives, illegal tobacco and bank notes.

Dog Detectives, which will be screened on the Quest Red TV channel, will feature tobacco detection dogs Scamp and Yoyo, explosive search dog Pip and trainee sniffer dog Maggie.

A film crew has been following Stuart during his regular work since February this year.

Stuart said: "This is an invaluable opportunity for the public to see the work that private sector working dogs do, assisting law enforcement agencies around the UK on the front line every day to fight crime and protect our communities."

Along with Stuart and his dogs a number of other officers will feature in this series including Trading Standards Officers from West Sussex, North East Lincolnshire, Dudley, Northamptonshire and Newcastle City.

The ten-part series starts at 8pm tonight (Monday, November 5) on Quest Red.

Quest Red is on Freeview 38, Freesat 169, Sky 149, Virgin 215 and BT TV 38
