BIRTHDAY celebrations turned sour when a holiday-maker bit a man’s ear in a Tenby pub.

Karl Anthony Crebbin, of Treetop Close, Saltash, Cornwall, pleaded guilty to assault by beating when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, October 30.

Sian Vaughan, prosecuting, told the court that complainant did not know Crebbin, 40, and described him as dancing erratically as if he was intoxicated in a Tenby pub on April 6.

“He was sitting down and the defendant started shouting and singing in to his ear. He laughed it off and patted the defendant on the back as if to pacify him.”

Crebbin became increasingly aggressive and swore at the victim before putting his mouth around his ear and biting down.

He then caused him to fall onto a table, knocking drinks over.

The incident came to an end when the complainant’s friends formed a wall between him and Crebbin.

David Elvy, defending, said Crebbin was in Tenby to celebrate his mother’s 60th birthday, as she had always enjoyed the town.

“They went out for the night, everyone was in good spirits. Mr Crebbin says he does not normally drink as he has to take medication.”

Mr Elvy added that Crebbin’s recollection of the evening was not the same as the complainant’s, and he had reacted to something which was said about his mother.

The court heard that Crebbin had little recollection about the incident, and was taken to hospital after he was assaulted on leaving the pub.

Mr Elvy said: “Mr Crebbin was set upon. He had bite-marks, he says he was trodden on with stiletto heels and there was an injury to his face.”

Magistrates fined Crebbin £200 and ordered him to pay £100 compensation to the victim.

He will also pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
