Pembrokeshire County Council's maintenance crews will be mopping up this weekend after heavy rain caused widespread disruption.

Maintenance crews are busy addressing known hot spots to tackle issues and are busy clearing drains to ease any pressure.

The A487 at Newgale remains closed due to surface water flooding from Brandy Brook and is currently unsafe to open due to the height of the water.

Temporary traffic lights will be put in place to assist with the flow of traffic.

It is hoped these will be installed this morning (Saturday).

The road at Spittal Tunnel remains closed due to flooding and conditions are expected to ease during the morning although it is not known when it will re-open

Drivers are urged to drive with caution as many roads are still affected by surface water throught the county. They are also advised to be mindful of any potential damage to infrastructure.

The flood warnings for Haverfordwest and Solva have been lifted after yesterday evening’s rain proved to be less severe than forecasted.

Angle village was affected by flooding overnight and the fire service are still in attendance at Havens Head and Lower Priory in Milford Haven working to pump out water and while the situation is still severe, conditions are improving.

Short, sharp showers are forecasted for the county throughout Saturday which could add to existing problems although none are expected to be as severe as in previous days.

The Authority’s Head of Environment and Public Protection, Richard Brown praised the council’s staff for the assistance they provided in such challenging conditions.

“Our staff were faced with horrendous conditions over the past few days and I’ve nothing but praise for the work they have done behind the scenes and out assisting the public.

“They are often the unsung heroes in situations like this and their efforts do not go unnoticed.”
