A line of light will illuminate Goodwick Parrog on Remembrance Sunday as part of the national Battle’s Over event celebrating the end of the First World War.

The event will run from 5.30pm on the Parrog when local groups Singing for Fun and Fishguard Folk Singers will perform songs and hymns from the period.

At 6.15 the bonfire above Lowertown Fort will be lit and all present will be asked to take their places along the seafront. Participants are asked to bring torches or a mobile phone with torch function.

Fishguard Lifeboat will then travel slowly from Lowertown Harbour and will move slowly along the Goodwick seafront area. As it passes participants will light up their torches, creating a slow-moving line of light.

At 6.55pm the Last Post will be played, followed by a two-minute silence. Then the beacon above Harbour Village will be lit to a soundtrack of First World War songs. The church bells will ring and the fog horn sound and then the singing groups will reprise.

There will be food available to buy and a free hot chocolate drink in the Ocean Lab for every child attending.

Leading up to the Remembrance weekend, there will be an exhibition of local schoolchildren’s pictures in Fishguard Market Hall and an exhibition of war time memorabilia in the town council meeting room.
