YOUNG people in Pembrokeshire have a new online support service for their mental and emotional health.

The service is called Happy Heart and Mind, and is available via an app or a new website.

Children and teenagers have been involved in creating the service from the start, and a year 8 student at Ysgol Bro Gwaun designed the logo and chose the name.

Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams presented the award and announced the app’s name.

Happy Heart and Mind, designed to be an online resource and support network for schoolchildren to access should they feel overwhelmed or anxious is due to be launched before Christmas.

The app is the brainchild of PCC Wellbeing champion, Councillor Josh Beynon.

The new App and website will give young people a more modern and streamlined way to see the support that they can access both inside and outside of school,” he said.

“While there are support networks available in school, from ELSA’s, youth workers and school counsellors, this App will be able to clearly signpost pupils with all the information that they may need stored in one place.”

He added: “There is a huge amount of expectation and pressure on today’s young people and this app will allow them to use their phones or tablets and look for help without anyone knowing should they wish.

“These changes will also hopefully reduce the stigma that is still attached around mental and wellbeing problems.”

The app has a comments and feedback section, and a forum is planned so its users can change how it works for the better.

‘Happy Heart and Mind’ will be available for download in December and will be available on both Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
