The following is a reader submitted letter from this week's Gazette (Nov 15).

This year, being the 100th commemoration of the end of the First World War, has been particularly poignant.

Even though nobody who fought then is still alive, we recognise their sacrifice and the tragedy of all those lives lost, people injured and families devastated and torn apart.

We tell ourselves that we will always remember the sacrifices and commit ourselves to it never happening again although it happened again just 20 years later.

It is therefore somewhat ironic that the United Kingdom is currently busy trying to find a way to leave the EU; one of the key reasons why there has been peace between the former warring states in Europe for the last 70 years.

For the last 500 years, the policy of the governments of the UK has been to ensure that no one power comes to dominate Europe.

Millions have died to meet this objective and now we are planning to negate this for no significant Brexit related benefit at any level.
