AN ELDERLY Haverfordwest woman died after suffering a fall at home, an inquest heard last week.

The body of Iris Anne Jones, 74, of 55 Fleming Crescent, was found at her home by her daughter on August 12.

At the November 15 inquest, Coroner’s Officer Jeremy Davies said Haverfordwest-born Mrs Jones, a former civil service secretary, had lived alone since the death of her husband.

Mrs Jones had a history of complex medical conditions, including Bell’s Palsy, and a history of falls.

She had fractured her hip around Christmas 2017, the inquest heard.

Despite this, she had maintained her independence.

Mrs Jones was visited by nurses on August 10, and was described as unkempt and dirty, wearing inappropriate clothing.

Following the nurses’ concerns, a GP visit was arranged, and a clinical management plan agreed.

Mrs Jones’ daughter, concerned following a call from the nurses and her cleaner, travelled from Barry to Haverfordwest on August 12.

After failing to get an answer at the house, she contacted emergency services and used her spare key to enter, finding her mother collapsed on the bedroom floor.

Mrs Jones, had suffered a massive subdural haematoma, blood collecting between the skull and the surface of the brain.

She was taken to Withybush, where she passed away at 9.22pm.

A post-mortem report by Dr John Murphy had suffered a massive subdural haematoma following her fall.

Mrs Jones also suffered from pulmonary disease, the report stated.

Reaching a conclusion of an accidental death, HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire Mark Layton said: “Following a domestic fall, Mrs Jones has suffered an injury from which she has not recovered.”
