PROPOSALS are being put forward for nearly 30 new homes on land in Tenby which is currently occupied by two disused printing works.

The ground at the rear of Knowling Mead is the site of the former Five Arches Press and Reeves Calendars buildings.

A pre-planning application consultation is now 'live' for the demolition of both factories and the redevelopment of the site for 29 residential dwellings, together with associated landscape and infrastructure works.

Being put forward by Asbri Planning of Cardiff on behalf of Jones Brothers (Henllan), the housing scheme features one four-bed house, 14 two-bed houses, two three-bed houses, two one-bed bungalows, eight one-bed flats and a two-bed disabled bungalow.

The vision for the site, said Asbri, is "to provide much-needed housing on unallocated white land within the settlement boundary. The site lends itself to residential development due to its proximity to local amenities and public transport."

The planners pointed out that the site's existing buildings are falling into disrepair and are "a blight to the local area".

They added that the residential development would be "high quality", with a mix of dwellings enhancing the character of the area's existing buildings.

The proposed access to the site would be from Knowling Mead, corresponding to the existing access to the former printing works. The company said that as the roads were previously used by large vehicles associated with the printing facilities, "the access arrangement is well-established". The pedestrian access point to Tudor Way would be maintained.

Tenby Town Council members were due to discuss the pre-planning documents at their meeting yesterday (Tuesday). All the documents are available online and public comments are being encouraged by Asbri Planning before December 11.

A planning application will be submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority in due course.
