YET more unpleasant autumnal weather failed to dampen the spirits of choristers or audience when Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir paid a return visit to Summerhill on Friday November 30.

They were warmly welcomed to Amroth Parish Hall by Joyce Lewis and launched into a varied programme chosen by Conductor Christine Lloyd. This included popular songs from ‘Les Miserables’, before taking on a more romantic mood and then the uplifting ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band’.

The ‘three bass amigos’ of Dean Maiden, Winston Owens and Chris Rooker, came together for ‘The Fields Of Athenrye’ while regular soloist Alyson Griffiths on flute delighted with a new item ‘Candles On The Water’ from Walt Disney’s ‘Pete and the Dragon’.

First bass Ron Rees also chose a new and seasonal piece for his second half solo - ‘A Winter’s Tale’, accompanied by Christine on piano and Alyson on flute. Choir accompanist was Carole Rees.

With the Christmas season so near it was fitting that audience and choir combined for ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ and there was a special encore at the request of Joyce Lewis - the ever special ‘The Rose’.

MC Phil Lloyd was in fine form and choristers firmly believe that they heard not one but two new jokes from him - something to remember.

Thanks for the after-concert refreshments were expressed by choir vice-chairman John Hillier.
