Police responding a noise complaint were handed Class B drugs in the mistaken belief they were about to execute a search warrant.
Jamie William Wilson, of Birch Mead, Mount Estate, Milford Haven, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, December 11.
Abul Hussain, prosecuting, told the court that police called at Wilson’s home following reports of loud music on November 10, and were presented with 4.2grams of cannabis.
“Mr Wilson opened the door and thought that the officers were there to execute a warrant, which is why he handed over the drugs.”
Mr Hussain added that Wilson, who had previous drug related convictions, was subject to a community order at the time of the offence.
Mark Layton, defending, told the court that Wilson, 28, used cannabis for pain relief after sustaining long-term injuries in a traffic collision.
“He understands that it’s against the law.”
Magistrates fined Wilson £100 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
A destruction order was made for the seized drugs.
