FULL moon swimmers who braved freezing sea temperatures in Solva for a fundraising Polar Bear Swim have raised £3,600 for a very worthy cause.

The Bluetits Open water Swimmers' polar plunge was held under the light of November's full moon.

Around 140 swimmers eschewed wetsuits and embraced goose pimples to swim in the 9.2 degree water under the stars and raise money for Paul Sartori.

This year's event included food stalls, a raffle, tombola, and hot tubs to reheat intrepid bathers.

Solva Quay was decorated for the occasion and supporters given glow sticks to add to the ambience.

Water safety support for the event was provided by Porthmawr Surf Lifesaving Club.

"Thank you to each and every Bluetit, family member and friend who helped in every way make the Friday full moon swim a success," said a Bluetits spokesman.

"Thank you to the members of Porthmawr Surf Lifesaving Club who came along as water support on Friday.

"They did an amazing job looking after everyone in the at Friday nights full moon swim. We are forever grateful to you for giving up your Friday evening to support us and Paul Sartori.

"A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this event. It was a great success and we now have loads of new Bluetits swimming with us and two other groups have set up in Ceredigion and in the Gower. Due to its success we are hoping this will become an annual event."

The Bluetits open water swimming group is open to everyone and new swimmers are always welcome to join in the brave bathing.
