A drink-driver admitted being a ‘bit of a div’ when he called at a police station after an accident.

Andrew James Bowen, of St Thomas Avenue, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, December 11.

Abul Hussain, prosecuting, said police received a report that a Ford Fiesta had been involved in a traffic collision on Hill Street, Haverfordwest, at 9.30pm on November 25.

Officers went to Bowen’s address but received information that he had presented himself at the police station.

He told officers “I’ve been a bit of a div,” and accepted his actions were wrong.

Bowen, 32, was found to have 85mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35mg.

Mark Layton, defending, said the loss of his licence would impact on Bowen, who worked as a carpet fitter.

Bowen was banned from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay £415 in fines, costs and a surcharge.
