HAVERFORDWEST’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) has been commended by the town’s Civic Society.

The THI scheme is a joint venture between Pembrokeshire County Council, The Heritage Lottery Fund, Cadw and private investors.

THI aims to revitalise the area by renovating and conserving its properties so they can become more attractive and commercially viable.

Under the scheme, over £2.65m in grant aid has been made available to refurbish historic properties within the town's conservation area, with a focus on Castle Square, High Street and Market Street.

An additional £1million has been pledged by private investors.

Steven Jardine, Pembrokeshire County Council’s THI Project Coordinator, together with the project’s chairman, Cllr Tom Tudor were presented with a certificate by the Society’s Susan McKeeman recently.

The Civic Trust commendation is in recognition of the drive, efficiency and entrepreneurial flair applied to regeneration activities in the town.

“This scheme is really making a difference,” said Cllr Tudor.

“The appearance of the town has received a boost and businesses too with some establishments reporting an increase in takings since work was carried out.

“This initiative has been great for the town and I’m delighted it’s receiving the recognition it deserves.”
