CAN you help find out why a dog was left abandoned in a Pembrokeshire village just before Christmas?

An emaciated, unwell veteran male dog was found straying in the village of Sutton in Haverfordwest.

The RSPCA was alerted after the un-neutered black and tan terrier was found by a member of the public, and taken to a local veterinary practice earlier today (December 18).

Veterinary inspection found a raft of issues with the poor dog - including emaciation, severe halitosis, a swollen face and a large infected mass occupying most of his inner cheek.

The dog is not microchipped, and the RSPCA is calling on the public to come forward with any information. He is thought to be approximately ten years of age.

Pembrokeshire County Council dog wardens have also been working hard to try and trace an owner of the terrier.

An RSPCA officer has said “somebody will surely know” why the dog was left straying on the streets of Pembrokeshire with so many issues and complications.

Vets report that the dog has a very good appetite, as he may have been without food for some while.

RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben said: “This poor dog was taken to a Haverfordwest vet practice in a very poor condition.

“Somebody will know why this terrier was left to stray in such a poor state – and we’re eager for the public to come forward with information.

“Our inspectorate appeal line can be reached on 0300 123 8018.”
