Trying to rekindle a relationship with a former friend led to a restraining order.

Karen Elizabeth Myfanwy Bennett, of Tudor Gardens, Haverfordwest, pleaded guilty to harassment without violence when she appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, December 11.

The court heard that Bennett, 29, sent numerous messages to her former friend between February 3 and June 6, despite being told to leave her alone.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain said: “The defendant could not accept the end of the friendship. She was saying she missed her.”

He added that Bennett, who was previously of clean character, also sent messages pretending to be someone else, in an attempt to get an emotional response from the complainant.

“There were numerous messages, none are of a threatening nature, but they are constant.”

Mark Layton, defending, said Bennett had struggled to accept her guilt.

“Miss Bennett’s friendship with the complainant had broken down and she tried to contact her in various ways, even using her sister’s tablet device.”

Mr Layton added that Bennett had learning difficulties.

“It’s clear that she has made contact with a former friend, trying to resume the relationship, to no avail, and has made things worse.”

Magistrates imposed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered Bennett to pay £105 in costs and a surcharge.

An indefinite restraining order was put in place prohibiting Bennett from contacting the victim.
