An alarm was activated following an incident at the Valero oil refinery in the early hours of Friday morning.
Local residents reported hearing the alarm at 4.30am and a Valero representative has confirmed that the alarm sounded as a precaution following an incident which was quickly dealt with by staff on site.
A Valero spokesman said: “Valero can confirm that the site alarm was activated as a precaution due to an incident on site.
“Operations and emergency department personnel promptly addressed the situation and the all clear was sounded soon after.”
He added: “No members of the workforce were affected and there was no impact on the wider community.
"While these actions were only precautionary they once again demonstrate Valero’s top priority remains the safety and the well-being of our employees, contractors and communities at all times.”
