THIS year marks the 175th anniversary of Pembrokeshire's worst-ever mining disaster.
And the tragedy at Landshipping's Garden Pits mine will be one of the subjects in the first talk in the 2019 programme of the Friends of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Dr Robert Davies will be giving a presentation on the development of coal mining in Pembrokeshire, and particularly at Landshipping. The Garden Pits disaster on February 14 1844 saw 40 people drowned when the incoming tide broke through the mine roof.
The talk will be in the seminar room of Bloomfield Community Centre, Narberth next Wednesday (January 16) at 7.10pm.
