FEARS that medical appointments in Pembrokeshire are being cancelled after a locum consultant transferred to Aberystwyth’s Bronglais Hospital have been allayed by the local health board.

Posting on Facebook page Save Withybush, page administrator Hayley Wood wrote: “Just been speaking to a patient about clinics being cancelled for antenatal and gynaecology, south pembs [hospital], as a locum consultant has been moved from Withybush to Bronglais for the foreseeable future.

“Impact is clinics have been cancelled as well as operations. I’m wondering if this has impacted on suspected cancer investigations? Has anyone else been affected by this?”

The post generated more than 100 comments, with fears raised that services were being downgraded “by stealth” in Pembrokeshire.

A spokesman for Hywel Dda University Health Board said: "We can confirm that the locum consultant, Mr Mohammed, has taken up a new role at Bronglais Hospital.

"Whilst we are working to cover the antenatal slots at South Pembs Hospital, any patients who cannot be accommodated are being offered alternative antenatal clinic appointments at Withybush Hospital. These patients currently attend Withybush Hospital for their antenatal scans.

"This temporary situation does not compromise access to operations."
