ALMOST 50 members attended the recent Pembroke Ladies Probus AGM at Lamphey Court Hotel.

Prior to the meeting, Margaret Davies told everyone that she had recently met a gentleman who had been a pupil in 1933 at the Coronation School.

At that time it was the Admiralty School, noted for the excellence of its education.

Each morning at assembly the school’s code of honour was recited, the gentleman not only still remembered it but said he had lived by it all his life. What an achievement.

Outgoing President Rita Evans thanked her committee, stating that she had been extremely fortunate to been assisted by such a special group.

Her year as president of the “popular Probus club” had been “happy and enjoyable,” with her particular highlight being the Spring dinner, where the entertainment was provided by the fabulous West Wales Show Choir.

It was good to hear that the club is in an excellent position with full membership and a healthy balance. Speakers through the year have been diverse and interesting.

Rita presented flowers to Secretary Jill Ensom, Speaker Secretary Pam Watton, and Treasurer Dilys Yeo, who were all retiring from their positions. Dilys was also given a voucher to thank her for six years as treasurer.

Incoming President Yvonne Hurton gave thanks to Rita for her successful presidential year, and also presented her with a bunch of flowers.

After the official exchange of the chain of office, seventh president Yvonne said, despite feeling a bit nervous, she was looking forward to the year, and to working with her committee, who she then introduced.

Following the AGM the group were served a superb three-course lunch, and many thanks are extended to the hotel staff for all their hard work.

The next meeting is on February 20, where the speaker will be Tony Keys, giving a talk on some old fashioned policing.
