A pregnant nurse was kicked in the stomach, and three other people assaulted, when a drunk man wanted to ‘fight the world’ after a house party.

Geraint Maldwyn Jones, formerly of Pendine, now of Llanboidy, pleaded guilty to four charges of assault by beating, criminal damage, making off without making payment when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, January 15.

The court heard that Jones and his then-girlfriend took a taxi to a Haverfordwest fast-food outlet on July 7 after being at a house party.

Neither had any money for food or the taxi fare when they arrived, and Jones, who was described as ‘extremely drunk’ urinated out of the taxi door.

He became aggressive and punched the windscreen causing it to crack when asked to get out of the car.

Jones, 23, then made his way to Tesco car park where he assaulted two men and a teenager. He kicked one victim in the leg, punched one in the face and pushed another in the chest.

He was taken to hospital after sustaining an injury when one of the victims attempted to defend himself, and lashed out, kicking a pregnant nurse in her stomach, winding her after he was placed on a trolley.

Peter Rhys Jones, defending, said: “To be blunt he wanted to fight the world. He assaulted several people.

“He is at a loss to explain his actions. He is disgusted with his behaviour, he says he genuinely can’t remember anything.”

The court heard that Jones, a fencing contractor who also cleans cow sheds, was remorseful for his actions.

Magistrates sentenced Jones to four months custody for each assault, and two for the criminal damage, to all run concurrently, suspended for 12 months.

He was also sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid work, a ten-day rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay £75 to three of the victims and £150 to the nurse, £85 for the damage caused and £5 for the taxi fare.

He will also pay £85 court costs and a £115 surcharge.

The chairman of the bench said: “It was an appalling incident.”
