WHITLAND’S Royal Mail delivery office is to close and be relocated to Narberth later this year.

The relocation, the date of which has yet to be confirmed, will follow the relocation of Tenby’s delivery office, which has 18 staff, to the new, purpose-built Narberth delivery office, at Rushacre Enterprise Park, Redstone Road, on February 18.

The Whitland relocation follows discussions with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and the 10 staff on the Spring Gardens Industrial Estate site.

There will be no impact on deliveries to customers and no compulsory job losses as a result of this relocation

Narberth delivery office moved from the town’s Spring Gardens to the new site in October 2018, a significant investment in Royal Mail’s operations in the area.

The new purpose-built office in Narberth has been designed to meet operational requirements and offer better facilities for customers and staff.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “This is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation of its business to increase the efficiency of its operation as well as providing delivery offices which are fit for purpose for our people and for our customers.

“As a commercial business, Royal Mail is responding to the huge growth in electronic communications and decline in letter volumes, while seeing a high volume of parcels and online shopping which need to be delivered to customers.

“When Whitland delivery office moves to the new site, there will be no impact on deliveries to our customers. The same postmen and women will continue to serve their local communities, delivering a high-quality service to customers.

“If Whitland customers choose to collect mail from us because they were not at home when we tried to deliver it, we will be retaining a local mail collection service in Whitland at the Post Office, 13 St John Street, Whitland SA34 0AN.”
