A Trecwn man has vowed to tackle his substance issues after he was found in possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

Brendan Hughes, of Barham Road, pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of Class A drugs and possession of Class B drugs when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, January 29.

The court heard that 7.482 grams of MDMA, 15 MDMA tablets, and three grams of cannabis were discovered in various locations around the property when a search was conducted at Hughes’ home on November 10.

Hughes, 25, made full and frank admissions when interviewed.

Mark Layton, defending, said the amounts found were consistent with personal use, and Hughes planned to engage with a drug support organisation on a voluntary basis.

The bench heard that Hughes had a drug problem for many years, and said he wanted help to deal with his issues.

Mr Layton said: “Mr Hughes said to me this morning that the drugs have been a problem in his life, and one that he would like to sort out.”

Magistrates fined Hughes £240 and imposed a 12-month community order with a ten day rehabilitation activity requirement.

A destruction order was made for the seized drugs and Hughes was ordered to pay £170 in costs and a surcharge.

The chairman of the bench said: “We are concerned that you are back in court again with more drug convictions.”
