Returning to recover items from a friend’s car in poor light has cost a Haverfordwest man £315.

Patrick Worrow, of North Street, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, without third-party insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence, when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, February 5.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said police saw Worrow, 44, pull over on the side of the road, after driving a Vauxhall Mokka in their direction at 6.15pm on January 19, on Bridge Meadow Lane, Haverfordwest.

Officers could smell alcohol on Worrow’s breath when they spoke to him and checks revealed he had an expired provisional licence.

He was found to have 53mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

Mike Kelleher, defending, said the vehicle belonged to a friend of Worrow and he had returned to it to collect items he had left inside earlier.

“He could not see them and moved the vehicle a short distance so that he would be under a light.”

Magistrates banned Worrow from driving for 12 months and ordered him to pay a total of £315 in fines, costs and a surcharge.

Nine penalty points were added to his licence.
