MALE voice choristers have turned to one of the famous names in Pembroke Dock’s military history to start a recruitment campaign for new voices.

They have sprung to attention with ‘Our Choir Needs You!’ and ‘Carry On Singing’ messages under the watchful eye of Field Marshal Earl Horatio Kitchener, one of Britain’s best remembered soldiers.

Kitchener’s famous First World War recruitment poster now has a new message, for men of all ages who believe they have a voice but have yet to take the plunge and try out choral singing.

Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir, which this year celebrates its 67th year, is looking for new recruits and is holding the first open evening on Tuesday, February 19 for anyone interested in finding out more about the choir and male voice singing.

The open evening will be at St Teilo’s Church Hall, opposite the new Aldi store, and anyone interested is invited to just turn up from 7.30 pm.

Pembroke Dock has a unique link with Kitchener who was stationed at Pembroke Dock as a young officer long before he became a famous name. A road in Pennar, Pembroke Dock, is called Kitchener Close in memory of his connections with the former garrison town.
