TEMPORARY buildings could be constructed at a school site in Haverfordwest ahead of work to build a permanent home for Haverfordwest VC High School.

The former Tasker Milward School site at Portfield, now known as Haverfordwest VC High Portfield Campus, could become the temporary home for all pupils in the new school next year.

A notice has been placed outside the school telling the public that Pembrokeshire County Council plans to move all pupils onto the site next year so work can begin on the former Sir Thomas Picton School site (now known as the Prendergast campus).

Western Telegraph:

A PCC spokesman said: “As part of this overall project it is the authority’s intention to decant the Prendergast Campus to the Tasker Milward school site during the construction period of the new school.

“As part of that exercise, additional accommodation and a revised traffic plan is required on the Portfield Campus.”

The county council plans to build a two-storey modular building at the Portfield campus to accommodate all the extra pupils on one site.

The notice outside the school says the temporary building and the rest of the former Tasker Milward site could be in use for approximately 40-months, or three years and four months.

Western Telegraph:

Planning permission has not been submitted yet, but as the project is so large, residents in the area need to be given prior notice so they can comment on it.

If planning is approved, work on the temporary building could begin during the summer holidays, to be ready for the new school year.

A traffic plan has also been prepared to manage cars and buses travelling to the Portfield site when it is in use by all pupils of the school.

The county council approved the Sir Thomas Picton site as the permanent home of the new English-medium school in Haverfordwest in July last year.
