THE FOUNDER of a Pembrokeshire charity which works to support people living with mental health issues has said the response to a BBC documentary about his work has been humbling.

Barry John, founder of the VC Gallery, has been featured on BBC Three’s Amazing Humans, a web series looking at inspirational people across the UK and beyond.

Since the video was shared online on Saturday, March 23, Barry has received hundreds of comments on social media and by email from people interested in his work.

“It has been unbelievable,” said Barry. “Every time I look at it there have been more messages.

“There are people saying how lucky Pembrokeshire and west Wales is for having the gallery in the area. I am so chuffed.”

He added: “There has been a number of messages from people I helped while I was in the military saying what I did for them while I was in service.”

The video tells the story of how Barry set up the VC Gallery in 2014 with his army pension and follows Scott, a veteran who rebuilds his confidence after returning to civilian life from the army.

Barry talks about the importance of art to helping visitors to the gallery with mental health and social exclusion issues, and how it can encourage people to open up about their lives.
