A NAPOLEONIC-ERA cannon that was reported stolen late last month has been offered a new home.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has offered to host the cannon on the lawn outside their offices in Llanion.

The cannon was reported missing on March 21 from outside the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Essex Road, Llanion.

After a police appeal, the cannon was found by PCSO Nadia Lloyd during house-to-house enquiries and returned to the hotel.

Cllr Josh Beynon said he was pleased a new home had been found.

He said: “A home for the cannon currently at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel has been found.

"Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has kindly offered to host it on the front lawn of the national park offices in Llanion.

“The logistics of moving the cannon are being looked at and it will be moved soon.

“I’m really pleased that it’s found a home. It’s been surprisingly complicated to solve especially given that it was first stolen then returned.

“And I’m glad it’s staying in Llanion.”

The cannon, one of two dug up from the ground at Hobbs Point and later restored, used to stand outside Llanion Park, the former offices of South Pembrokeshire District Council, now the home of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

It passed to the ownership of Pembrokeshire County council after the 1996 local government reorganisation, and was later, controversially, moved to the now-defunct hotel site.
