A NEW contractor has been appointed for Fishguard's Chimneys Link road and work should be starting soon, Pembrokeshire County Council has said.
Work stopped on the £1.1 million town centre scheme last month after Swansea-based construction company Dawnus went into administration.
Phase two of the Chimneys Link masterplan involves the redevelopment of 1.5 hectares of land in Fishguard town centre and includes construction of new link road, a bus/coach stop and alterations to the existing Co-op store
Several buildings in the town centre have already been demolished to make way for the improvements including Transition Bro Gwaun's café, the former Fishguard Junior School buildings and part of the old library and the back of the Ship and Anchor pub.
The scheme has received a £1.1 million transport grant from the Welsh Government.
A spokesman from Pembrokeshire County Council said that progress is has been made on the scheme.
"The contract with Dawnus has been terminated and we have been going through a process of re-appointing a contractor to take over the contract," said a spokesman.
"GD Harries has been appointed and should be starting soon. The precise date is to be confirmed."
