CANINES and their companions will be leading the way to a forthcoming dog-friendly day out at the seaside.

Celebrating and encouraging responsible dog ownership, SaundersWoof 2019 takes place on the village’s splendid new harbourside National Events Deck on Wednesday April 24, and features fun for all on two legs and four.

The event is building on the success of the inaugural SaundersWoof in 2017 and is being organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism (SCT) and Dyfed-Powys police, with the support of Pembrokeshire County Council.

Said Dilys Hackett from SCT: “It’s going to be a brilliant day for all ages – we’ve got stalls with activities, games, tips and advice and the chance to meet working dogs. The first event went so well that we’re back with a big ‘woof’!”

The 2017 SaundersWoof saw the launch of the village’s community dog watch scheme, where volunteers encourage dog walkers to pick up after their pet.

Said PCSO Rachel Adams: “We will, of course, be reinforcing this message at the event, as well as celebrating responsible dog ownership, the dogs themselves and charities such as Greenacres, who we rely on so much.”

Attractions will include: free taster session with Pembrokeshire Dog Training; advice from professionals on pet nutrition, training and dog behaviour, together with doggy health checks; a chance to meet the ‘dogs at work’ – police dogs, Burns reading dogs and guide dogs.

There will also be free nail clipping, ear care and grooming advice from Muddy Paws, and dogs can join their owners in taking a refreshment break, as Little & Large Lite Bites café will be serving up pup-cakes alongside other bakes.

Competition times are as follows: 10.30am, waggiest tail; 11.30am, best costume; 12.30pm, best rescue; 1.30pm, sausage-catching; 2.30pm, best pair of legs (owner and dog duo); 3.30pm, golden oldie.

SaundersWoof 2019 takes place between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday April 24. Admission is free.
