Drinking vodka after a night of delivering pizzas led to a 15 month driving ban doe a Sageston man.

Ian Leslie Holmes, of Bartletts Well Road, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, April 16.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said Holmes’ Peugeot 308 was stopped on Marsh Road, Tenby, shortly after midnight on March 31, as part of a routine check by officers.

He added that there was no allegation of bad driving.

“The officer could smell alcohol when he spoke to him and a roadside test was positive.”

Holmes was found to have 51mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

The court heard that Holmes, 60, currently held a clean driving licence, but had been convicted of drink-driving in 2006.

Gareth Waite, defending, said Holmes had drank vodka after finishing his shift as a pizza delivery driver, but thought he was within the legal limit to drive.

“He was stopped by the officer less than a mile from where he left Dominos.

“He is very sorry for what has happened and wishes to pass on his sincere apologises to the court today.”

“He has shown genuine remorse.”

Mr Waite added that Holmes had started a new job as a warehouse assistant, but had to travel 16 mile to work, which would be affected by a driving disqualification.

Magistrates fined Holmes £310 and ordered him to pay £85 costs plus a £31 surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 15 months.
