WALES’ biggest folk festival is just around the corner.
Tredegar House Folk Festival will be taking over the grounds of the Grade 1-listed building in Newport, from Friday, May 10 until Sunday, May 12.
On the Saturday and Sunday there will be family fun, with free dance displays, colourful processions, kids entertainment, free concerts and ceilidhs.

Some concerts will require payment. Concessions apply to those over 60, students, and children aged eight to 17. Children aged seven and under get free entry.
Friday night will see a concert held in the Concert Marquee from 7.30pm, featuring Bob Fox, Will Pound and Eddy Jay, Brooks Williams, and the Paul Lloyd Nicholas band. Tickets £18 or £17 concessions.
There will also be a ceilidh featuring Callennig Band and Pat Smith on Friday night, at Marcus Music Pavilion from 8pm. Tickets £8 or £7 concessions. Alternatively, family tickets admitting two adults and two children, or one adult and three children, will be available at £18.

Saturday evening will follow a similar format. The evening concert, starting at 7pm, will see Alaw, Patty Gurdy, The Hut People, Rob Lear Band and Morfa take the stage. Tickets £20, or £19 concessions.

The Saturday ceilidh will start at 8pm at Marcus Music Pavilion, this time featuring Juice and Dave Parsons. Tickets priced as above.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon Calan, Jez Lowe, Frank Hennessy and Belshazzar’s Feast will perform from 3pm, at the Concert Marquee. Tickets £20, £19 concessions.

Children’s entertainer, Mr Big, will be at the site from 1pm and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, offering free family fun.
Weather permitting, there will be processions at 12.45pm on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be free dance displays on both days between 1pm and 5.30pm.
The festival will also feature a range of stalls, with a Cotyledon Food and Craft Market open from 10am to 4pm, on Saturday. There will a CAMRA real ale stall, offering 25 different ales, a regular bar, plus the National Trust tea rooms will be open throughout the weekend.

Folk fans can buy an all-weekend ticket which includes access to everything. These are £45 for adults or £20 for children. For those hoping to camp for the weekend, it’s £10 per unit, although you must bring your tent. To arrange camping at the Caravan Club’s site, next to Tredegar House, call 01633 815600.
Tredegar House has car parking, with pay and display. It is £1 for up to an hour, £2 for one to four hours, or £5 for more than four hours. National Trust members park for free, disabled parking is free.
