OVER the winter of 2019, local writer, Kerry Steed was commissioned to write Building Stories – a collection of poems inspired by people’s memories of Haverfordwest and the buildings that make up its historic heart.

The 15 poems have now been published in a limited edition booklet, illustrated with images produced in community workshops with spacetocreate.

“We are making sure that everyone who participated has a free booklet,” said Kerry.

“Copies will also be available at main libraries around the county, with read only copies in local coffee shops.”

Guy Norman from spacetocreate, who managed the project said: “Just as we did with an earlier collection of Kerry’s poems, we want to use the books to encourage people to support their local economy. Around 100 free copies will be distributed with the help of some great independent local businesses and voluntary organisations.”

Copies are available, on a first come first served basis, at the following locations: The Ark Health Hub; Victoria Bookshop; The Creative Common; Just Nice; Haverfordwest Town Museum and the VC Gallery.

Not all is not lost for those who miss out, as the collection can also be viewed in an on-line edition at: spacetocreate.org.uk/projects/history-in-our-hands

The project was supported by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Haverfordwest Townscape Initiative.
