One of Pembrokeshire's busiest roads has been closed to remove an overturned lorry.

The A40 near Llanddewi Velfrey was blocked at around 4.20pm today (May 3) and is expected to remain closed both ways until 9pm tonight.

A heavy goods vehicle overturned near the Llanddewi Velfrey garage, affecting traffic travelling between Haverfordwest and Carmarthen.

The road is closed between the Blackbridge Roundabout, Whitland and the A478 Penblewin Roundabout, Narberth.

"We are at the scene of an RTC on the A40 just passed Llanddewi Velfrey garage towards Pengawse Hill," said the force on Facebook.

"Road is currently blocked. Please use an alternative route at this time."

The Western Telegraph's traffic report said: "A40 both ways closed due to an overturned lorry and recovery work from A477 (St Clears Roundabout, St Clears) to A478 (Penblewin Roundabout, Narberth).

"Traffic is coping well. The road has been closed for emergency services to assist. Affecting traffic travelling between Haverfordwest and Carmarthen."

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue said there were two fire engines at the scene from Narberth and Whitland.

The fire service arrived at 4.25pm and crews are under the leadership of a fire officer.

Western Power are at the scene.
