TWO schemes in the Cardigan area are part of environmental and biodiversity projects which will benefit from more than £1million of Welsh Government funding.

The first project involves the creation of a 600m long-life boardwalk infrastructure at the Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve outside Cardigan, with support of £77,328 and £19,332 of match funding from The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

The second, in conjunction with Ceredigion County Council, will see improved access to 650 meters of riverside footpath at Cenarth in the Teifi Valley, through installing a recycled plastic boardwalk in places along its length.

Welsh Government will provide £124,000, with £31,000 of council match-funding.

Twenty projects across Wales will receive funding as part of the Enabling Natural Resources and Well-Being in Wales grant scheme. The funding was announced as Wales celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22).

Further projects set to benefit from grant funding will be announced in the near future.

Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths said: “These grants will make a difference, not only to the environment and biodiversity of the land around us, but also the wellbeing and mental health of the communities and businesses who utilise and enjoy them.

“We need to ensure people can access the wonderful resources they have around them and grants like these will help make it easier than ever to do that.

“It is important we preserve and protect the environment around us for future generations to enjoy.”
